Frequently Asked Questions

IV therapy is the administration of fluids, medications, or nutrients directly into a vein, providing quick absorption and immediate effects.

IV therapy can be used for:

  • Rehydration due to dehydration from illness, exercise, or heat
  • Administering medications that need rapid absorption or cannot be taken orally
  • Delivering nutrients and vitamins
  • Treating electrolyte imbalances
  • Blood transfusions

During an IV therapy session:

  • Preparation: The healthcare provider will clean the injection site, usually on the arm or hand.
  • Insertion: A needle attached to a small tube (catheter) is inserted into a vein. The needle is then removed, leaving the catheter in place.
  • Administration: The IV fluid is connected to the catheter, and the flow rate is set. The fluid will drip slowly into your vein.
  • Monitoring: The healthcare provider will monitor you throughout the session to ensure everything is progressing smoothly.

The duration depends on the type and amount of fluids being administered. Most sessions last between 30 minutes to a few hours.

You may feel a small pinch or sting when the needle is inserted. Once the catheter is in place, there should be minimal discomfort.
